Assistant Librarian

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30.
Duties:
· Setting up and maintaining access to electronic resources;
· maintaining records on the library database;
· handling queries related to accessing electronic resources;
· administering on-line journal package subscriptions;
· downloading bibliographic records from databases;
· receipt of ordered material;
· handling invoices and other financial documents;
· communicating with suppliers, colleagues and clients;
· monitoring budget allocations;
· working with on-line vendor and acquisition tools.
Requirements:
· A diploma in Library & Information Science or equivalent, OR a Senior Certificate plus relevant qualifications and experience
· excellent computer skills within the Windows environment
· excellent skills in using an integrated computerised library system, library-related databases and other library-related computer applications
· knowledge of electronic publications
· proven accuracy and attention to detail
· relevant experience or good knowledge of financial processes in an acquisitions environment
· excellent human relations and the ability to function successfully within a team
· good spoken and written communication skills
· successful administrative experience
· a high level of numerical skills.
Recommendations:
· Relevant experience gained within a tertiary environment
· knowledge of the Aleph computerised library system
· knowledge of international library standards, e.g. MARC21 and AACR2R.
Commencement of duties: 1 March 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter
