Institutional Research Officer

The Division for Institutional Research & Planning (IRP) is responsible for: higher education environmental scanning and rendering advice to the University management; institutional research projects and the generation of business intelligence; academic planning; generating and providing institutional information and publication of information reports; HEMIS reporting; quality assurance of academic departments, support services and academic programmes; approval of research surveys amongst staff and students; and liaising with institutions outside the University, e.g. the Council on Higher Education and the Department of Higher Education & Training.

 

Duties:

  • Supporting the Director: Institutional Research in the execution of institutional research projects and surveys;
  • co-operating in the processing of institutional information requests;
  • updating the annual Stellenbosch University Fact Books;
  • co-operating in the updating of the University’s annual Strategic Management Indicators (SMIs);
  • supporting the Director: Institutional Research in organising workshops, taking minutes and other tasks as required;
  • driving specific projects as agreed upon from time to time.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • a minimum of three years’ experience at a higher education institution;
  • excellent interpretative, communicative and administrative skills;
  • sound oral and written communication and language skills in Afrikaans as well as in English;
  • excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • proficiency in the use of electronic information systems;
  • good numerical skills;
  • a focus on service delivery;
  • attention to detail and accuracy.

 

Recommendations:

  • Master’s degree;
  • experience in institutional research at a higher education institution;
  • experience as a member of the academic staff at a higher education institution;
  • research experience and/or experience in supporting research projects, preferably quantitative research;
  • knowledge of higher education policy.

 

Commencement of duties: 1 April 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter
