Citrus Research International (CRI) aims to maximise the long-term global competitiveness of the southern African citrus growers through the development, support, co-ordination and provision of Research and Technical Services. Research on the control of Citrus Black Spot (CBS) and other fruit and foliar and soilborne diseases of citrus is a priority as these diseases can impact negatively on citrus production and exports through yield reduction and phytosanitary regulations in certain markets. In order to advance the current understanding of the chemical management of citrus diseases, CRI wishes to employ a dynamic and dedicated disease management technician in Nelspruit. This position will focus on the advancement of chemical control of citrus diseases through the development of control programmes, evaluation of existing and new active ingredients, as well as improving the application of these chemicals.
The candidate should have a natural science or agricultural tertiary qualification (minimum BSc degree; ideally MSc) with relevant experience (either as part of post-graduate studies or work related) in the application and evaluation of agro-chemicals, have an excellent inter-personal profile, be bilingual (Afrikaans and English), be competent in Microsoft Office and statistical software and have a driver’s license. Candidates with the relevant experience and training will be considered.
CRI offers a favourable working environment and a competitive and flexible remuneration package. The position is available from 1 January 2019.
